GOING GREEN: Stern, You and the Environment

Since NYU's Sustainability Initiative was launched in 2006, the University has taken impressive strides towards shrinking its environmental footprint. A sampling of accomplishments include:

At Stern, we are also deeply committed to sustainability and excited to continue to collaborate with you in these efforts. A sampling of our efforts include:

Reducing Paper Usage:

Thanks to the collaboration of you, our faculty and staff, we proudly surpassed our initial goal of reducing overall paper usage by 50%. Print@Stern, a new print system developed and instituted by the Stern Campus Greening Initiative, credits you with 1500 "Sternbucks":

  • 1 Sternbuck = 1 sheet of paper;
  • 1 sheet of paper printed on both sides (duplex) still only "costs" 1 Sternbuck.

We know that printing is an integral component of your academic life here at Stern. To further our positive momentum, we will continue to work to ensure that:

  • all of you have access to a generous quota;
  • faculty minimize out of class printing requests;
  • quota balances can easily and accurately be checked via Simon;
  • additional pages can be easily purchased when necessary;
  • the Stern UC administration team replaces print communicatons with web-based communications whenever possible.

More changes within Tisch Hall:

  • We continue to engage with Building Services to provide more recyling containers and water bottle refilling stations.
  • We have decreased the amount of bottled water and disposable cups used for meetings and events.
  • We have increased the usage of energy saving light bulbs in administrative offices.
  • We continue to incorporate "green" materials in all building renovations.

Additional Efforts:

To maintain Stern's position at the forefront of the University's sustainability initiatives, we will continue to be involved in the activities of the Stern Campus Greening Initiative as they pertain to the Undergraduate College and will remain active in the University's Sustainability Advocate program.
