Social Entrepreneurship

Sabira Lakhani, Stern Class of 2012 and NYU Reynolds Scholar, is working towards an understanding of social finance and investment: identifying the intricacies of social capital, measuring impact, and balancing missions and returns. As a Reynolds Scholar, she is working towards creating a sustainable and scalable social venture to contribute to the waste management infrastructure in developing urban India. Her goal is to significantly improve the triple-bottom line impacts of garbage and waste on India's population.

Social Entrepreneurs boldly approach and imaginatively address some of society’s most intractable problems. With a primary focus on high social returns, these individuals work across sectors - in private businesses, nonprofit organizations, and within governments - to leverage intellectual, social, and financial capital resources to innovate in and have an enduring, positive impact on areas such as poverty alleviation, access to healthcare, literacy promotion, and environmental sustainability.
