Social Impact Stipends
What have students done in the past?
- Each semester and break, Stern students intern & volunteer locally and abroad. Recent placements include the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Social Entrepreneurs Corp, Action Against Hunger and Volunteer Africa.
The Program
During each semester and break period, the Undergraduate Dean's Office offers a limited number of individual stipend awards to Stern Undergraduate students who
- secure an unpaid internship at a nonprofit or government organization;
- participate in an individual or group volunteer community service project; or
- pursue an idea for a project with an intention to create a positive social impact on their community.
Eligible applicants:
are current, matriculated students in the Stern School of Business Undergraduate College at the time of the application deadline and during the entirety of the internship/volunteer project period;
have arranged for an unpaid internship with a nonprofit or government organization or have confirmed their participation as a volunteer on a community service project by the application deadline;
have a demonstrated commitment to community service.
Complete applications include:
- completed online application document
- supervisor letter of proof of project/internship
- current resume
- current unofficial transcript (can be obtained from Albert)
- statement of service commitment, project description & expectations
- expense detail document
- acknowledgement of deliverable and debrief stipulations
- information confirmation
The application process for the AY10/11 cycle is now closed.
The online application for the AY11-12 is now available.
Only complete applications will be reviewed.
2011-2012 DEADLINES
Applications for the NYU Stern Undergraduate College's Social Impact Stipend program are accepted on a rolling basis. This is a competitive application process and funds may not be available for every project idea that is submitted. Priority consideration will be given to applications submitted by the dates listed; consideration will be given to applications submitted after these dates if funds remain.
