Frequently Asked Questions

What is a NetID?

NetIDs are created by IT (from a list they receive from Admissions) to give Stern students access to password-protected websites such as email, AIS, Proficiency Exams and Core Course Waivers, among others.

When will I receive my NetID?

It takes at least a week after Admissions receives a student's deposit to create a NetID.  Once it has been created, students may retrieve and activate their NetID on the Langone Part-time MBA Admitted Students Website.

How do I register for online Business Writing?

If a student received below a 4.0 on the AWA portion of the GMAT or the Analytical Writing Section of the GRE, he or she will receive a letter from MBA Academic Affairs and will be automatically registered for Business Writing by the Office of Records & Registration.

May I take more than 6 credits in my first term?

On occasion, students are permitted to take more than the standard 6 credits typically scheduled in the first semester.  If approved, a student would take another Stern Core course (COR-1.GB2311 - Foundations of Finance, COR1-GB.2310 - Marketing, COR1-GB.2303 - The Global Economy, or COR1-GB.2314 Operations Management).

Please contact MBA Academic Affairs via email (academicaffairs@stern.nyu.edu) with an explanation of your desired schedule.

May I take my first two classes on Saturday?

Students admitted to the Weekend Program will take their classes on Saturday and/or Sunday.  If a student was admitted to the Weeknight or Westchester Program, in most cases he or she will not be able to take weekend classes during the first two terms in the program.

If I only registered for 3 credits, may I take Financial Accounting & Reporting or Statistics & Data Analysis?

Students must take either COR1-GB.1302 - Leadership in Organizations or COR1-GB.1303 - Firms & Markets in their first term.  If a student is approved to take only one class in the first term, it must be either Leadership in Organizations or Firms & Markets.  Students may not register for only Financial Accounting & Reporting or Statistics & Data Analysis in their first semester.

May I switch Core Groups?  I didn't get my first choice.

The Office of Records & Registration places students into Core Groups according to student-based rankings.  Students may not change Core Groups after they have been placed in classes.

May I send in my deposit check with my registration materials?

The deposit check should be sent directly to the Admissions Office with the Enrollment Reply Form.  The balance of the tuition due should be sent to the Office of Records & Registration separately per the instructions on the Langone Part-time MBA Admitted Students Website registration page.

When do I receive a copy of my course schedule?

New students can view their schedule online via the Langone Part-time MBA Admitted Students Website on a designated date a few weeks before classes begin.  If you would like a paper copy, the Stern Bursar's Office can provide a receipt of payment upon request which indicates your courses for the semester after the designated date.

What should I do if I am waiving out of one of the four Basic Core (Leadership in Organizations, Firms & Markets, Financial Accounting & Reporting, Statistics & Data Analysis)?

Request a Core Waiver online, and MBA Academic Affairs will send you an email with instructions.  All students should be clear about their intentions to waive one of the Basic Core by indicating this information on the online course registration.  Students should only rank Core Groups which do not offer the course they are planning to waive.

Who can assist me with my financial aid questions?

Stern Graduate Financial Aid can assist you.  Please visit their website.

Where can I find more information regarding Stern's computer facilities (i.e. laptop configuration)?

For questions on Stern's computer facilities, please visit the Stern IT website or call the IT Help Desk at (212) 998-0180.  Students will also receive more detailed information regarding technology at Langone Orientation.

Do Stern students receive discounts on any computer products?

The NYU Computer Store offers student discounts and financing on computes and electronics.  Please visit their website for more information.

Is NYU Housing available to Langone students?

Please see the Student Activities website for more information on student housing: Part-time Student Housing.

When and where can I purchase my textbooks?

All students will receive a receipt from the Stern Bursar in the mail confirming their course registrations.  Using this information, students can take this receipt to obtain their NYU ID card at the NYU Card Center at 383 Lafayette Street.  Using the NYU ID card, students can visit the NYU Professional Bookstore online or in person to determine and purchase the required textbooks.

Please note: there will not be sufficient time to purchase books during Langone Orientation weekend.

What should I do if any of my biographical information has changed since I was first admitted (i.e. name, company, etc.)?

The New Student Database located on the Langone Part-time MBA Admitted Students Website uses information pulled directly from each student's application for admission.  As such, the only information which can be changed or updated is contact information.  Employer and/or Industry information cannot be updated in this database.

Students wishing to update their contact information may do so via the Who Are My Classmates section of the Langone Part-time MBA Admitted Students Website.

Employer and/or Industry information may be updated via the Stern Directory - students will have access to this directory via AIS after Langone Orientation.
