2003 Annual Academy of Management Meetings in SeattleThis past August, Professor Ari Ginsberg participated in a symposium at the Annual Academy of Management Meetings held in Seattle that sought to address the question, "Can We Innovate Our Way to a Sustainable Future?" In his talk - "Integrating Institutional and Cognitive Models of Eco-Innovation," Professor Ginsberg presented a framework for developing an integrated perspective of sustainable development research and illustrated how this approach can be used to understand organizational responses to environmental ecology issues that involve innovation and new technology development. In another conference session on the "Strategic and Financial Performance Implications of Corporate Investment in New Ventures," Professor Ginsberg presented a paper entitled "Unpacking the endorsement effects of corporate venture capital investing." This paper, which is co-authored with Professors Iftekhar Hasan and Chris Tucci, discusses the results of an empirical study that examines the role of corporate venture capital investment in reducing IPO underpricing. The other papers presented in this session were "Corporate Venture Capital in the Context of Corporate Innovation" and "Do Corporate Venturing Programs Yield Intangible Assets for Sponsoring Firms?" The first paper co-authored by Professors Chris Tucci and Hank Chesborough examined the role of corporate venture capital programs in stimulating corporate R&D spending. The second paper co-authored by Doctoral Student Gary Dushnitsky and Professor Mike Lennox explored the strategic role of corporate venturing programs in harvesting innovations from entrepreneurial ventures. |
