The Department of Information, Operations and Management Sciences (IOMS) is a creative and dynamic academic community committed to creating notable research that focuses on exploring contemporary problems via economic analysis, theory and statistical methodology.  In the ten years since three departments - Information Systems, Operations Management, Statistics & Operations Research - joined together to form IOMS, the department has moved to the forefront of research in areas such as social network connectivity and development, communication and e-commerce dilemmas

The Information Systems Group has distinguished itself with awards such as the IBM Faculty Award, several Microsoft Research Awards, several NSF Early CAREER Awards and the 2010 Google-WPP Marketing Research Award. Grants have come from a variety of prestigious institutions, such as the NSF IGERT Grant and IBM. IS faculty serve on the boards of renowned journals including the INFORMS Journal of Computing, Theoretical Economics and Management Science, and Information Systems Research. In 2009, the IS Group launched WIN: the Workshop on Information in Networks, which brings together leading researchers studying networks information in distribution, diffusion, value, and influence. Together, the Information Systems Group looks at social and economic outcomes in order to lay the foundation for ongoing relationships and to build a lasting multidisciplinary research community. The Operations Management Group has a strong presence in top Operations Management journals such as Operations Research, Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management and Production and Operations Management.  Over the past five years, professors in the OM group have held several editorial positions: four Associate Editors in Management Science, three Associate Editors in Operations Research, four Associate Editors in MSOM, two Associate Editors in POM and one Department  Editor in POM.  The IOMS Department Chair was appointed Fellow of INFORMS and POMS, and in the last few years, NSF and other funding sources have issued grants and have sponsored a number of OM faculty.  Awards received are an MSOM Best Paper, the George Nicholson Paper Competition, INFORMS Optimization Prize for Young Researchers, and the Best Paper in the 21st ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms, 2010. The Statistics Group has four Fellows of the American Statistical Association, one Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, two Elected Members of the International Statistical Institute, and one Associate of the Society of Actuaries. Members of the Statistics Group have served on over ten journal editorial boards and participated in the biennial Stern-Wharton Statistics in Business Day. The Statistics Group recently had a symposium on Statistics and Operations Research in Baseball. The group has been awarded grants from the National Science Foundation, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Institute for Information Infrastructure Protection. One faculty member is listed among the top 100 theoretical econometricians.
