NYU Stern

History

The Center for Digital Economy Research was founded in 1980 and was originally exclusively part of the Information Systems Department at Stern. It was formerly named The Center for Research in Information Systems and was renamed The Center for Information Intensive Organizations in 1997 as it expanded to include broad research initiatives at the school regarding how information technologies were coming to shape business. In 2001, the name was changed to the Center for Digital Economy Research to align more precisely with this school-wide focus.

CeDER has several times been cited as the leading producer of scholarly research in the information systems field. Over the years CeDER faculty have authored more than 500 working papers and 30 research monographs and text books. The center coordinates, sponsors, and hosts events designed to bring scholars and students in the field together for brainstorming and collaborative opportunities. In addition to the weekly IOMS Research Seminar Series, it has held many pivotal conferences in recent years. Furthermore, CeDER was instrumental to the creation of a Behavioral Laboratory which has come to home 16 computers as well as a computing cluster for computation intensive research. Both of these facilities are heavily used by Stern researchers across the board.
