Non-Profit Sustainability Internship Program

The NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business (CSB) provides financial support and assistance to Stern students interested in pursuing non-profit internships focused on using market-based solutions to address sustainability challenges. (We also help students find for-profit internships in sustainability; check our website for more information).

CSB will identify non-profit internships that qualify for funding and help those organizations connect with Stern talent. Organizations will include leading environmental NGOS, leading social-issue focused NGOS, and non-profit organizations working on market-based mechanisms to address sustainability challenges. The non-profit internship program is open to both undergraduates and MBA students.

You can find the list of approved internships here, and please see below for more information!

Partner Organization Requirements

CSB strongly believes that students should not perform uncompensated work. We also recognize that many organizations do not have the budget to fund internships. Our internship program requires that organizations contribute modest matching funds to support students, with Stern providing the bulk of the support. Required funding levels are outlined below.
  • Academic Year Funding (UNDERGRADAUTE): CSB to provide $1,000/per student as a stipend for 10 hours/week for the semester; Organization to provide additional $500 in funding per student
  • Summer Funding (UNDERGRADUATE): CSB to provide $4,000/per student; Organization to provide additional $1,000 in funding per student
  • Academic Year Funding (MBA): CSB to provide $1,800/per student as a stipend for the semester; Organization to provide additional $700 in student funding
  • Summer Funding (MBA): Summer MBA positions may be funded through an existing MBA internship support program entitled SIIF. As part of that program, partner organizations are required to commit $3,000 towards the student. Students will apply for this funding. For more information on that process and requirements, please email Kate Scarbrough (kscarbro@stern.nyu.edu) and Lynn O'Connell (loconnel@stern.nyu.edu). If a student does not receive funding through SIIF, CSB will work out funding details with the organization and qualified students on a case by case basis.
