Print Quotas

As part of Stern’s green initiative, print quotas will be enforced beginning Fall 2007. The quota target will be achieved over a three-year period, with each Stern student receiving a quota of 2,000 pages during the first year, 1,500 pages during the second year, and 1,000 pages during the third year. The print cycle runs from July 1st through June 30th of the following year. Unused pages do not carry over. Students from other schools in the university who take classes at Stern will receive 150 pages per class enrolled at Stern. If students use up their print quotas before the end of the year, additional pages can be purchased at 100-page increments for $15 or 200-page increments for $30. We will evaluate the quota system at the end of this three-year period.

FAQ’s

1. When does the quota begin this year?
This year the quota will begin on July 1, 2008 for all students. All students will receive 1,500 pages for the year beginning July 1, 2008 and ending June 30, 2009. Non-Stern Students taking Stern classes will be allocated 150 pages per Stern course.

2. How do I see the number of pages I have left in my quota?
Login to SIMON at http://simon.stern.nyu.edu, and click on the link that says “Print Quota.” It will show you the number of pages you have already printed and the balance on your quota.

3. How do I buy more pages?
Login to SIMON at http://simon.stern.nyu.edu and use the “Print Quota” link to purchase more pages. You can purchase 100 pages for $15 or 200 pages for $30 using MasterCard or Visa. Once your credit card has been approved, the purchased pages will be added to your quota automatically.

4. Does each side of a duplex printed page count as one?
The quota system currently counts by sheet of paper, which means that one sheet of paper printed on both sides (duplex) counts as one page out of your print quota. Printing duplex is a great way to save paper and stretch your quota.

5. If I notice a mistake in my quota, who should I talk to?
If you notice any discrepancies in your quota usage or have any trouble or questions with printing at Stern, please contact the IT helpdesk at 212-998-0180 or helpdesk@stern.nyu.edu. You can also visit the helpdesk at UC49 between 8am and 10pm Monday through Friday, or 8am and 6pm Saturday and Sunday.

6. How do I print from my laptop?
Visit our printing How-to-Guide for steps on how to set up your laptop for printing to Stern printers.

7. I live at the Palladium, will pages I print from the Palladium lab facility count towards my quota? Do I have the same quota?
Students living in the Palladium residence hall have the same quota - 1,500 pages for this academic year. Pages printed from the Stern computing lab at the Palladium will count toward your quota.
