What is my print quota?

Each student is issued a 1500 sheet quota for the period July 1, 2009 - June 30th, 2010. Quota is non-transferable. Unused quota is not refunded or carried-over.

How is quota counted?

Quota is measured in Sternbucks with 1 Sternbuck = 1 sheet of paper. If you print duplex, on both sides of the sheet, you can get two pages for the cost of 1 sheet. Therefore, using Duplex printing (the default setting) not only saves paper, it effectively doubles your quota.

When does the quota begin this year?
This year the quota will begin on July 1, 2009 for all students. All students will receive 1,500 pages for the year beginning July 1, 2009 and ending June 30, 2010. Non-Stern students taking Stern classes will be allocated 150 pages per Stern course.

How do I see the number of pages I have left in my quota?
You will see the number of remaining Sternbucks/sheets left in your quota after every job you release from a print Release Station. You may also check your quota at anytime from the Release Station.

What if I run out of quota?
If you run out of Sternbucks/sheets, you may purchase additional Sternbucks/sheets with your credit card at the rate of $15.00 for 100-Sternbucks/sheets or $30 for 200-Sternbucks/sheets. Unused purchased sheets are non-transferrable and will not be refunded or carried-over.

How do I buy more pages?
You may purchase additional pages from the Print@Stern webpage. Coming Soon!

Does each side of a duplex printed page count as one?
The Print@Stern system counts by sheets of paper, one sheet of paper printed on both sides (duplex) counts as one sheet out of your print quota and costs one Sternbuck. Printing duplex is a great way to save paper and stretch your quota.

If I notice a mistake in my quota, who should I talk to?
If you notice any discrepancies in your quota usage or have any trouble or questions with printing at Stern, please contact the IT helpdesk at 212-998-0180 or helpdesk@stern.nyu.edu. You can also visit the helpdesk in UC-120 between 8am and 10pm Monday through Friday, or 8am and 6pm Saturday and Sunday.

Visit our printing How-to-Guide for steps on how to configure your laptop for printing to Stern printers.

I live at the Palladium, will pages I print from the Palladium lab facility count towards my quota? Do I have the same quota?
Students living in the Palladium residence hall have the same quota - 1,500 pages for the year beginning July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010. Sheets printed from the Stern computing lab at the Palladium will be deducted from your quota at the rate of 1 Sternbuck per 1 sheet of paper.

Will unused print quota or purchased sheets carry-over from year to year?

No, any unused print quota, including purchased sheets, will disappear when the next year's quota is allocated. Unused purchased sheets are non-transferrable and will not be refunded or carried-over.

Do I get additional quota if I am a TA, take additional courses or serve in a special role?

No, no additional quota is provided for TA's, special assistants, students taking additional courses, etc. Additional Sternbucks may be purchased as needed.

What about my club's printing needs?

Clubs accounts are issued the same 1500 sheet quota annually to accommodate club-related printing needs.

How long can I print after graduation?

Students who graduated will be able to print until either their quota runs out or July 1 of the year they graduate. January and May graduates will not be allowed to print to Stern printers or purchase additional quota after July 1 of the year they graduate.

How many pages can I print at once?

While there is no limit on the number of pages you can print at once, we have noticed that larger files, particularly PDF files, often result in system errors due to the amount of time it takes the system to proocess the job. As a best practice, we recommend breaking large PDF files into sections of 50 pages for printing.
