| Spamblock - Stern's Pure Message anti-spam system |
|
Pure Message is Stern's Enterprise anti-spam system. You may login to spamblock.stern.nyu.edu
to access the system. The spamblock system will allow you to review messages sent to your account that were flagged as spam and not delivered to your inbox. If you wish to have
a message in the filter delivered to your inbox, you can choose to do
so.
Login to Puremessage
To login to spamblock, use the link at the bottom of your daily "Quarantined
spam messages" digest email or visit spamblock.stern.nyu.edu.
You will see a login box that looks like the one below:

Enter your Stern netID or login ID into the top box. You don not need
to enter your full Stern email address. Enter your regular Stern password
and then click the login button. Depending on the amount of spam messages
addressed to you, login may take time.
Review your spam
After login you will see a list of messages sent to
your address that spamblock stopped. You may review
the list and choose to delete or deliver any of the messages. See example
below:

The list of messages will include the sender and the
subject as well as the spam score (probability of the message being
spam expressed as a percentage with 100% equaling maximum probability
of being spam). Use the navigation bar in the upper and lower right
corners to scroll through page views of blocked messages. The navigation
bar is shown below:

Recover a message that is not spam
To recover a message that is not spam, check on the box to the left
of the message listing. Once you have checked all the messages you wish
to recover, click on the "Deliver Message" button at either
the top or bottom of the message list. If you wish for all mail from
that sender to be delivered to your Stern box in the future, click "Deliver
& Approve Sender." All checked messages will be delivered to
your Stern inbox. Delivery is not immediate, but takes a few hours.
Approve a Sender
To add a sender to your list of allowed senders, click
on the "Approved Senders" link in the left side menu bar of
the main screen. You will see a dialogue box like the one below:

Enter the address of the sender you wish to allow messages
from and then click the "Add Sender" button. This will prevent
future messages from that address being stopped by the spam filter.
Block a Sender
To prevent a sender from sending spam to your Stern account,
copy the address of the sender and add it to the Blocked Senders dialogue
box in Spamblock. Click on the "Blocked Senders" link in
the left side menu bar. You will see a dialogue box like the one below:

Enter the address of the sender you wish to block messages
from and then click the "Add Sender" button. Future messages
from that address will be blocked by the spam filter and not delivered
to your inbox.
Deleting Spam
The puremessage system gives you the ability to delete
spam messages. You may choose to delete individual or groups of messages
by checking the box(es) to the left of the message(s) and then clicking
"Delete Message" button on the top menu. You may also delete
all blocked message by clicking the "Delete All" button on
the top menu bar. Please note the message count on the screen will not
update instantly after deleting messages.
If you do not delete blocked messages, they will automatically
be deleted after 14 days.
Logging Out
To log out of the Puremessage Spamblock system, click on the Log
Out menu option on the left side menu bar.
