How to Set up Authenticated SMTP in Eudora
E-mail systems that send mail over the Internet use SMTP to send
messages from one server to another. The messages can then be retrieved
with an e-mail client using either POP or IMAP.
On campus, when you are connected to the NYU server from a Stern computer
or your own notebook PC via wireless (or using NYU dial-up), the servers
are as follows:
| Using
POP3 |
Using
IMAP |
| Incoming
Mail Server: |
connect-pop3.stern.nyu.edu |
Incoming
Mail Server: |
connect-imap.stern.nyu.edu |
| SMTP

smtp.stern.nyu.edu |
Configuring Eudora to use Authenticated SMTP will
allow you to send emails from your Stern account at home. You will have
to enter your password once per session before sending messages. Follow
the instructions below to configue authenticated SMTP.
Configuration Steps
1.) Under Tools menu, select Personalities.
2.) The Personalities menu will dock on the left of
the screen. Right click on an existing account, choose New to create a new account (and skip step iv.) or choose Properties to modify an existing account (then skip the next step).
3.) When you choose New, the New Account Wizard will
pop up. Follow the on-screen instructions to input your personality
name, email address, etc. When prompted for the server name, enter the
incoming server as connect-imap.stern.nyu.edu and the outgoing
mail server as smtp.stern.nyu.edu. Check the box labeled
"Authentication Allowed."
4.) In the Properties window, enter
the incoming server as connect-imap.stern.nyu.edu and outgoing
mail server as smtp.stern.nyu.edu. Check the “Authentication
Allowed” box.
