Configuring Authenticated SMTP for Outlook 2003
Systems that send mail over the Internet use SMTP to send
messages from one server to another. The messages can then be retrieved
with an e-mail client using either POP or IMAP. For instructions on

On campus, when you are connected to the NYU server from a Stern computer
or your own notebook PC via wireless (or using NYU dial-up), the servers
are as follows:

Configuring Outlook 2003 to use Authenticated SMTP

Configuration Steps
1. Open Outlook 2003 and under the Tools menu select Email Accounts...
2. Select "View or Change existing Email Accounts" and click Next.
3. Select your Stern account in the next window and click Change.
4. Click the "More Settings" button in the
Internet E-mail Settings window.
5. Under the Outgoing Server tab, check the box for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication",
then select the option for "Log on using..." and fill in your regular user name and password.

6. In the same window select the Advanced tab and, under the Outgoing server settings area
check the box for "This server requires encrypted connection
(SSL)." Change the port to port 465, if it does not change automatically. Click OK and you're done!
