Configuring Authenticated SMTP for Outlook 2007
Systems that send mail over the Internet use SMTP to send
messages from one server to another. The messages can then be retrieved
with an e-mail client using either POP or IMAP. For instructions on

On campus, when you are connected to the NYU server from a Stern computer
or your own notebook PC via wireless (or using NYU dial-up), the servers
are as follows:

Configuring Outlook 2007 to use Authenticated SMTP

Configuration Steps
1. Open Outlook 2007 and under the Tools menu select Account Settings...
2. Select your Stern email account from the list of accounts on the Email tab and click the change button above the listed accounts.
3. The Change Email Account dialogue box will appear, click More Settings in the lower right-hand corner.
4. Click on the Outgoing Server tab in the
Internet E-mail Settings window.
5. On the Outgoing Server tab, check the box for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication",
then select the option for "Use the same settings as my Incoming Mail server."

6. In the same Internet E-mail Settings window select the Advanced tab. Under the Outgoing server settings area
change the "Use the following type of encrypted connection" drop down option to SSL." Change the number in the box next to Outgoing Server (SMTP): to 465. Click OK, then Next and then Finish and you're done!
