Be sure to uninstall any existing or trial versions of Anti-virus software before installing this version.
It is vitally important that every computer connected to the Internet have Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software installed. Two of the leading utilities in this field are Symantec/Norton Anti-Virus and Lavasoft's Ad-Aware.
As a service, NYU'S ITS provides free, fully licensed versions of these critical applications for you to install.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware
NYU's software license for Ad-Aware expired on Nov. 30, 2008. As a result, Ad-Aware will no longer automatically download and install updates on your computer or run scheduled scans. Ad-Aware will continue to function on your computer, but you will need to do the following to manually run system scans and check for new definitions. We recommend that you do so daily.
1. Open Ad-Aware (double-click the Ad-Aware icon on your desktop).
* After Nov. 30, the first time you do this, Ad-Aware will tell you your license has expired; click "Convert to Free", next click "Revert".
2. The free version of Ad-Aware will open to the Status tab.
3. In the Definitions Status area, click "Update". When your Ad-Aware definitions have been updated, you'll be prompted to click "OK".
4. In the System Scan area, click "Scan Now" to run an Ad-Aware system scan. We recommend that you run a Full Scan.
If you do not already have Ad-Aware, and wish to install it on your Windows computer now, a free version is available for download at www.lavasoft.com. Once you have installed Ad-Aware, be sure to download new definitions immediately. You should then run system scans and check for new definitions each day, following the instructions above.
