During National Cyber Security Awareness Month Stern IT will help educate the Stern Community about importance of cybersecurity.

How secure are you?

Begin with our security quiz and be sure to follow the links for more information.

  • Is your Windows PC configured to download and install operating system updates (also called critical patches) automatically? To check, or to turn on Automatic Updates, open your System folder and click the Automatic Updates tab.
  • Are you using automatically-updated antivirus software? If not, install it now.
  • Are you using a personal firewall? If not, consider using the Windows XP SP2 firewall. Enable Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2 by clicking Start, Run, then typing Firewall.cpl, and clicking OK. On the General tab, click On (if not already on), and then click OK.
  • Are you selecting passwords that are at least eight characters long and include both a number and a special character?
  • Are you keeping your passwords private and changing them frequently?
  • Are you backing-up your important files?
  • Are you keeping your personal information secure?
  • Are you using a password protected screen saver or logging out when you step away from your computer?
  • Do you look for the https:// in the URL bar and the lock symbol in the lower left corner of your browser window before providing any personal information on a web site?
  • Do you use an anti-spyware program such as Ad-Aware? If not, install it now.
