ITS - Brio is a business intelligence (BI) tool, typically used in conjunction with data from the University Data Warehouse, for BI reporting and research, in support of decision-making across the University. Stern IT offers technology rich classrooms for pedagogically sound learning experience.  The enhancements include Sympodium Interactive Displays, Echo360 Lecture Capture Solutions, Smart Board interfaces, document cameras, student table microphones, dual projection capabilities, dry-erase wallpaper, and power outlets for student laptop use.  Normal technology classroom offerings include a networked podium PC, Wi-Fi, DVD/VCR player, laptop connection, standard video recording capabilities, and wireless lapel microphones.

The CITL informs faculty about new instructional technologies and makes those learning tools readily available to enhance student learning.  The Center offers classroom technology and podium training on a one-to-one or group basis and researches new instructional technologies for pilots and standardization.

 

Most technology-enhanced classrooms have dual projection systems, classroom capture, Crestron, Sympodium, document cameras, and DVD/VCR combos. The CITL will provide faculty training in the use of enhanced classroom facilities upon request.

Stern Undergraduate Student Computer

Labs

Stern's two large, modern computer labs offer high-end Windows systems, along with laser printers, DVD drives, and related equipment, and a wide variety of up-to-date software, including professor requested course applications. High-speed

connection to Internet resources can be made from the labs' computers. There is no charge for use of the Stern labs and printing is free. Labs are located in the Tisch Building – Stevenson Lab (a.k.a. L101) in the Tisch Lobby, and LC 11-13-15 in the Lower Concourse level of Tisch.  Stevenson Lab is for exclusive use by full-time Stern Undergraduate Students. LC11-13-15 is also open to non-Stern Undergraduate students, who are taking a Stern course. A Novell account is required to gain access to all Lab computers.

Stern E-Stations

Stern provides E-Stations (express stations) all through its three building. There are 89 computers in total. The stations in Tisch are for Undergraduate Student use, and the stations in the KMC and Shimkin buildings are for use by Graduate students. They have Windows and commonly used application printing capabilities and high-speed internet connection. A Stern account is required to gain access to all E-Stations.

Stern IT offers remote software application. This software runs completely off a server, but appears to have been installed locally, enabling users to open, save and modify files belonging to those applications. Users can log into http://apps.stern.nyu.edu to access applications.

Loaner Laptop Program – Students

The Stern IT HelpDesk provides laptops to MBA students for use within the Stern complex.  The laptops will be loaned out for 4 hours or until 1 hour before the end of business hours, supplies permitting.  Each laptop contains the same suite of software available on our lab machines, and has Wireless capabilities.

Loaner Laptop Program – Faculty

Stern IT provides laptops to Faculty, Staff, and Administrators at Stern for use in Special Events or for extended loan.  Requests are made via an email to helpdesk@stern.nyu.edu with the reason for the loan request and the length of time the laptop will be needed.  All laptops come with standard productivity software, and all data is completely cleared upon return to the Help Desk.

Blackboard accounts/admin/support/tutorials

Both NYU Central and the Stern school use the Blackboard course management system. This system allows instructors to post and organize course materials, communicate with students outside of class, exchange homework assignments, offer tests, and maintain grades online. Blackboard also provides a means of streaming video-recorded class meetings, surveying students, and creating collaborative group projects and learning communities outside of the classroom.

 

The CITL handles all Blackboard support for Stern faculty by offering on-going daily technical support, one-on-one training sessions, and course management workshops for faculty and academic administrators.

Stern-IT performs regularly scheduled technology maintenance in all Stern classrooms.  The audio, visual, and computing technologies are tested twice daily to ensure proper operation throughout the day.  Prompt and on-site repairs are carried out if a call is received from classroom areas.  If necessary, IT will provide alternative technology.
