Financial Aid

All eligible joint-degree students applying for financial aid must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and list New York University (Federal Code 002785). Candidates who will be registered in the Law School must complete additional application materials. Please contact the Law School for further information. Financial Aid deadlines for the following academic year are January 15 at Stern and April 15 at all other schools. Each school may award differing amounts of aid, and with the exception of most federal and private loans, aid can be used only at the awarding school. It is strongly recommended that joint-degree students speak with each school to coordinate this process each year.

Stern Teaching Fellowships and Graduate Assistantships

Joint-degree students may be eligible to secure a Teaching Fellow (TF) or Graduate Assistant (GA) position. Eligibility requirements for a TF/GA position include completion of 30 Stern credits, a 3.2 GPA, and full-time enrollment (at least 12 credits) at Stern. Please note that payment for these positions is in the form of tuition remission only.

Tuition and Fees

Joint-degree students pay full tuition at the school through which s/he is registered each semester. If a student exceeds the maximum number of credits and/or courses permitted per semester by the school in which s/he is registering, the tuition and fees for the additional credits must be paid to that school.

The normal course load for law students is 12-15 credits. However, a JD/MBA student registering through the Law School and taking MBA courses may take a maximum of 18 credits (combined Stern and Law courses) at no extra cost.

Joint-degree students follow a similar course of study as Stern block-scheduled, full-time MBA students. Block-scheduled, full-time MBA students take 16.5 credits in the first semester and 15 credits in the second semester. The normal maximum course load for Stern students in the second year of study is 13.5 - 15 credits per semester. JD/MBA students registering through Stern in the first semester of the fourth year and taking Law courses take a minimum of 16.5 credits (combined Law and Stern courses) at no extra cost.
