Final decision of Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly in United States of America v. Microsoft

On November 1, 2002, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly issued her final remedies decisions on the antitrust case of the United States and 18 States against Microsoft. The decisions can be found at the District Court's web site.

The judge accepts with small modifications the settlement agreed by USDOJ, Microsoft, and the Attorneys General of York, Illinois, North Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Maryland and Ohio. The judge dismisses the additional remedies proposed by the Attorneys General of California, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, West Virginia, Florida, Kansas, Utah, and the District of Columbia.

This decision is a major victory for Microsoft, the USDOJ and the states that settled. It is a major defeat for the states that did not settle and had an additional a two-month trial to convince the judge to impose more severe remedies.
