John Irons: Following up on my past feature on Network Externalities (feature: 3/1/98), I have put together this series of Q&A's with Professor Nicholas Economides. This interview is broken into three parts. The first discusses networks and network externalities in general. The second part looks at networked industries and industry structure. The third part looks at policy and the microsoft case in light of the economics of networks.
 

Nicholas Economides is Professor of Economics at the Stern School of Business, New York University. He earned his Ph.D. from University of California at Berkeley and previously taught at Columbia University and Stanford University.  Economides has published extensively on networks, network pricing, market structure and other topics. He recently edited a special issue of the International Journal of Industrial Organization on Network Economics and is currently working on a book entitled The Impact of the 1996 Telecommunications Act to be published by the American Enterprise Institute and M.I.T. Press (1998).  He also maintains web sites on the Economics of Networks and on the current Microsoft Legal Battle.
