Given the financial freedom the scholarship has awarded me, I have realized that I am also interested in careers in the non-profit space. I have been volunteering at an organization called Top Honors, a free mathematics tutoring service for struggling 6th to 8th graders in New York City, for the past four years. I am now weighing the option to work there full-time after graduation.

I graduated from NYU CAS (college of Arts and Sciences) in 2010 where I majored in Mathematics. After college I worked in two meritocratic non-traditional roles: first, playing poker online while traveling abroad for a year, and second, trading equities on a proprietary trading desk here in New York City for five years. While I enjoyed my previous work, I wanted to explore opportunities in the larger business world, particularly in marketing and consulting.

Looking towards the rest of business school, I am particularly excited by my agenda. The following three semesters, I will be enrolling in elective courses – courses which are of academic and practical interest to me. This summer I will have the opportunity to learn more and gain a new perspective through a summer internship in consulting or industry. Finally, I will have the chance to travel abroad regularly in the coming months. This January, with classmates, I am heading to Cuba and in March, with classmates, to Japan! My volunteer, academic, professional, and travel experiences are made possible, in a large part, thanks to you.

I am very grateful for your support and look forward to another fantastic year and a half at school!

Sincerely,
Joshua Bienstock

I had a fantastic first few months at Stern, where I have become an Assistant Vice President of the Latin American Business Association and the Association of Hispanic and Black Business Students. The scholarship I received has allowed me to pursue my goals with confidence and financial security.

I am a first-year MBA student at New York University’s Stern School of Business. I am writing to sincerely thank you for your generosity in donating towards the Graduate Dean’s Scholarship. The scholarship has greatly reduced the financial burden of attending business school and has allowed me to completely focus on my classes and professional development.

Let me introduce myself further. I am a bilingual Venezuelan-Canadian that graduated from the University of Toronto, where I studied civil engineering. After graduating, I worked for an engineering consulting firm, where I led building construction projects from inception through completion. As a result, I developed a deep understanding of how to optimize interconnected building systems. As a sustainable design specialist, I delivered the first parking garage in Canada to become LEED certified, a designation for sustainable buildings. I have also been involved in the renewable energy space by volunteering as a Board Member and then later becoming the President of a renewable energy co-op. In part due to my efforts, the co-op was successful in obtaining its first customer and securing grants for its pilot renewable energy project.

Stern's flexible core has provided me with a strong grounding in a variety of business disciplines. By specializing in both Strategy and Leadership and Change Management, I am learning techniques and frameworks that can be applied to diverse organizational challenges.

Thank you for contributing to the Graduate Dean's Scholarship.  This scholarship has made possible my current full-time studies at NYU Stern and my future career in city government.

My interest in public service career guided my career choices prior to Stern. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, I served as a City Year AmeriCorps Member in a Boston public school. There, I designed and led data-driven intervention programs to improve outcomes for high-poverty students and families. After City Year, I worked at the intersection of government and business. As a Senior Project Manager in the Revenue Division of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, I simultaneously raised revenue for the City of New York and developed valuable public amenities for its residents.

I realized through my experiences at City Year and NYC Parks that government institutions needed to become more dynamic, innovative, and effective to be able to properly address the pressing crises facing American cities.  The NYU Stern MBA program is helping me prepare for this challenge by enabling me to develop both my hard and soft skills.  Stern’s flexible core has provided me with a strong grounding in a variety of business disciplines.  By specializing in both Strategy and Leadership and Change Management, I am learning techniques and frameworks that can be applied to diverse organizational challenges.   My participation in Stern’s Leadership Development Program and the Stern Consulting Corps have enabled me to continue to grow my interpersonal skills and immediately discover real-world applications of my class lessons.

This summer, I will be interning at a large, management consulting firm. This position, which I attained through Stern’s on-campus recruiting program, will further immerse me in the business world and allow me to participate in the transformation of a large corporation. Upon graduation, I hope to continue working in consulting to deepen my understanding of a diverse set industries. The lack of graduate school debt, made possible by this scholarship, will allow me to quickly transition back to a management position in city government. There, the knowledge and leadership skills I am developing at NYU will enable me to produce high impact results for city residents.

Thank you for making these endeavors possible.

Sincerely,
Eitan Adler

I feel honored and privileged to be a recipient, and so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of NYU Stern community. I am afraid I will not be able to articulate the true magnitude of your impact, but want to share a hint of the difference you have made.

I am an MBA student graduating in the class of 2019, specializing in Strategy, Marketing and Business Analytics. I am writing to thank you for your generous support in making the MBA Women in Business scholarship possible. I feel honored and privileged to be a recipient, and so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of NYU Stern community. I am afraid I will not be able to articulate the true magnitude of your impact, but want to share a hint of the difference you have made.

Your support not only made it possible for me to take this next step of an MBA, but to make the most of it. I worked in the market research industry prior to Stern and am working to transition to consulting following graduation. Long-term, I hope to leverage the skills and experience I develop – both at Stern and in my next career steps – to influence the two causes I am most passionate about: education and gender equality. Stern has provided me with endless resources and a strong support system to help me achieve my career goals. Moreover, you have provided me the ability to do so without the distraction of an overwhelming financial burden.

Outside of career and academics, I have also been heavily involved on campus. As part of Student Government’s Career Development Committee, I am working on an initiative to help our office of career development source pain points, needs, and ideas for improvement from students. I manage social media and marketing for the Social Impact and Sustainability Association, thus connecting students to events and opportunities on campus. In addition, as the AVP of Engagement for Stern Women in Business, I plan everything from bonding activities to awareness campaigns to volunteering events that will engage and activate women and allies at Stern. Through this involvement, I feel myself already affecting the Stern community.

This community is one of the primary reasons I chose to come to Stern and has proven to be truly incredible. In the few short months that I have been at Stern, I have made close friends and have been challenged and inspired by peers and professors. I missed one day of statistics and had four copies of the handouts in my hands the next day from classmates that grabbed me an extra. I know that there is always someone to study with or to cheer me on and my peers know that I am always there to do the same for them. We have two years together on campus, but I can already tell that this is a community and connection that will last a lifetime.

Thank you again for your generosity. I look forward to giving back both in my time at Stern and beyond.

Sincerely,
Cayley Heller

Thank you so much for making this academic experience come true. It is a truly life-changing experience, and I am thankful for your support.

Thank you so much for making the MBA Women in Business Scholarship possible. I am originally from Tokyo and moved to New York City this summer with my husband and one-year-old daughter. My husband is also a student, currently pursuing a graduate degree at Columbia University, so this scholarship means a lot to me.

Before business school, I worked at a Japanese conglomerate called Mitsubishi Corporation for seven years, where I developed and invested in power generation projects throughout Asia. I am hoping to leverage my finance skills and pivot into the technology space post-graduation. I am currently an active Board Member of the Stern Technology Association and am planning to take experiential courses in the technology sector next semester to make this transition come true. I cannot express how important this scholarship has been to help me achieve my career goals.

Once again, thank you so much for making this academic experience come true. It is a truly life-changing experience, and I am thankful for your support. I look forward to meeting you at the scholarship reception in March.

Sincerely,
Chigusa Katoku
