Suzanne Elliott

Executive MBA 2010

After 10 years of on-the-job training, Executive MBA student Suzanne Elliott worked her way to up to executive vice president of development and marketing at Dress for Success Worldwide, a nonprofit organization that helps disadvantaged women around the world attain economic independence. “But I still wanted to take my career to the next level,” said Suzanne. “In the long term, I want to apply my experience in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors, as well as my education, to affect change in the areas of poverty reduction and workforce development. With these goals in mind, Suzanne enrolled in Stern’s Executive MBA program to build her overall management skills and to develop proficiency in the areas of accounting, financial management and operations.

“From day one, I was able to apply concepts that we learned in class to my day-to-day job.” In her current role, Suzanne leads fundraising and marketing efforts for Dress for Success, and is always striving to find efficiencies in the organization’s operations. “In my class on managing change with Professor Lynn Gonsor-Anvari, we tackled real-world case studies,” she explains. “And after delving into these cases and seeing how other companies have maximized resources and found efficiencies, I was able to share those ideas and business solutions with my colleagues.”

“When I started at Stern, I thought I had a firm grasp of my talents and my goals, but after one short year, I have developed new strengths and ideas, which I’m excited to explore and apply in my career.”
