Richard Hetherington

Executive MBA, Class of August 2013

Armed with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and a law degree, Richard was well-prepared for his role as a CFO Consulting Manager for Kiwi Partners, Inc. Kiwi provides accounting and CFO level consulting services to small to medium sized nonprofits in the New York area. His job responsibilities include presenting financial information to his clients’ senior management and Board of Directors. The financial information was his comfort zone after 13 years of experience, but Richard felt challenged to enhance his leadership skills in order to help chart the future direction of his nonprofit clients.

In the NYU Stern Executive MBA program, Richard is pursuing a specialization in leadership to further increase his effectiveness for his clients. And despite his years of accounting practice, Richard was able to learn new lessons in Professor Eli Bartov’s class Financial Accounting and Reporting that he applied right away. As a result, he was able to recognize significant additional revenue for a client. Like his clients, Richard has reaped the benefits of the program quickly. He received a promotion to Senior Manager after only 8 months in the program and says, “I’m sure the promotion was in part due to the skills I had already shown to Kiwi that I had acquired from Stern, even though I was still in my first year.”
