Frequently Asked Questions - NYU Stern Westchester

Admissions

Is the application different for NYU Stern Westchester?
There is one application for the Langone Part-time MBA Program. You will be asked to indicate your choice of Manhattan - Weeknights, Manhattan - Weekends or Westchester - Weeknights options on the application.

Can I take a tour of NYU Stern Westchester?
We regularly host information sessions in Westchester. Take a virtual tour of NYU Stern Westchester, including our newly renovated facilities.

Can I change my mind and apply to NYU Stern Westchester instead of Manhattan or vice versa during the application process? Can I change once I am admitted?
Westchester - Weeknights is one option on the Part-time MBA application. If you determine that you have applied to the wrong option before you have received an admissions decision, please contact admchair@stern.nyu.edu. The Admissions Committee will review your request to change on a space-available basis. You cannot change the location/option for your first two semesters after you have received your admissions decision.

Please note: The MBA Admissions office is located in Manhattan.


Program Details


How long will it take to finish the program in Westchester?
The average time to complete the Part-time MBA program is approximately 3 years.

How many specializations can I pursue?
Part-time MBA students may have as many as three specializations.

Can Westchester students participate in study abroad?
Yes. In fact, for-credit study abroad programs and classes are counted towards the required 15 non-Westchester credits.

Can I participate in student clubs? Social events? Student government?
As a Part-time MBA student, you can participate in all these activities. The majority of these activities are student organized and take place in Manhattan. However, there is a VP of Westchester Students as part of the Part-time Leadership Forum (PTLF), who works closely with Westchester core group leaders to organize social and community service events in the Westchester area. As a student in Westchester, you experience the best of both worlds -- a close-knit community in Westchester and access to a broader professional network in Manhattan.

Who is the Westchester program contact once I am enrolled? Where will that person/persons be located? What are the office hours?
There is an administrator dedicated to Westchester who is the primary academic advisor and provides on-site support to students and faculty. The administrator also acts as a liaison to the Registrar, Bursar, MBA Academic Affairs, Financial Aid, and academic departments in Manhattan. She has an office on-site in Westchester and is available during the weeknights when classes are held.

What was the goal of opening NYU Stern Westchester?
The goal was to offer working professionals in the Westchester County, New York, Fairfield County, Connecticut, and Bergen County, New Jersey areas more convenient access to NYU Stern's top-ranked Langone Part-time MBA program.


Classes


Is the faculty the same in Westchester as Manhattan?
Yes. There is one Stern faculty who teach all MBA classes across programs.

Are the same classes offered at both locations?
All core classes and some electives will be offered in Westchester.

Are intensive classes offered in Westchester?
Some of your core courses will be offered as intensives in Westchester.

Why can’t I take all 60 credits in Westchester? Can I take electives in Westchester?
You can take 45 of the 60 required credits for the MBA in Westchester, including some elective courses. By state law, 15 credits must be taken outside of Westchester -- at Stern in Manhattan, another NYU graduate school or through one of our many international programs.

Can I waive out of any core courses?
Yes. Core courses may be replaced with electives if you have majored in a relevant field or pass the proficiency examinations that are offered by Stern. 60 total credits are still required for the MBA.

Can I take classes in Westchester on the weekends?
Core classes in Westchester during the fall, spring, and summer terms will only be offered on weeknights. Some intensive module courses offered in the late summer and winter, as well as limited electives, may have schedules that include weekends.

What is the class schedule in Westchester?
Classes will be offered on weeknights. Expect to attend class two nights a week, from 6-9 PM. Intensives will each have their own unique schedules. During the first year, Westchester students starting in the fall have classes Monday/Wednesday.

Can I take classes at another NYU graduate school?
You can take 15 of your credits in pre-approved classes at other NYU graduate schools. These can count towards your 15 non-Westchester credits.


Facilities


What are the facilities like in Westchester?
NYU Stern Westchester is located in Purchase, NY at Purchase College. This location is convenient to both Westchester County, New York and Fairfield County, Connecticut (see Westchester Directions). Take a virtual tour of NYU Stern Westchester, including our newly renovated facilities.

We have brand new smart classrooms, a study area, conference room and faculty offices. In addition, NYU Stern Westchester has an administrative office and on-site personnel to answer any questions during class nights. Students have access to the Purchase College library and student center, as well as convenient parking.

Mobility between Programs / Locations


Can I transfer to/from Westchester?
Students are required to complete the first two regular terms (intensives not included) at the location to which they are admitted. During your second term, you may request a transfer, to take effect at the beginning of your third term. Transfers are permitted on a space-available basis.

Can I take some of my Westchester core classes at the Manhattan campus?
If you are interested in taking core classes at Manhattan after you enroll, you must speak with the Westchester program advisor. Such requests will be considered and accommodated on a space-available basis only after your first term in the Part-time MBA program.
