# Application Process and Important Dates ## Application Process **You must be nominated by your home university in order to study at NYU Stern on exchange. Contact your school’s exchange office for information on how to apply.** ## **Step 1:** Submit the following three documents via email to [ibexincoming@stern.nyu.edu](ibexincoming@stern.nyu.edu) - One copy of your official or unofficial transcript in English that includes ALL university-level coursework, including the most recent semester - Your English Language Test Results. See below for accepted tests and required scores - One passport-sized digital photo of yourself (for our office use only) ## **Step 2:** Complete the University Programs Application - The link will be sent to you directly via email after you are nominated by your home university. This application is required to officially matriculate you as an NYU student. ## **Step 3:** Receive your Acceptance Letter and Visa Sponsorship Instructions (via email). - Your NYU NetID and N Number (Campus ID) are found at the top of this email and will allow you to activate your NetID/NYU Home account. This letter is emailed to you automatically within a few weeks after you submit the University Programs Application in Step 2. - Complete all steps in Step #3 before taking action on the Visa Sponsorship Instructions! - The Acceptance letter will show your 2 NYU IDs at the top of the email - NYU N# is the letter N with 8 numbers following it (i.e. N12345678) - NYU NetID is 2 or 3 letters (your initials) followed up by 1 – 5 numbers (i.e uc1234) - Activate Your NetID/NYU Home account - IMPORTANT - Visit the [NYU Start page](https://start.nyu.edu/) - Input NYU NetID and follow the prompts to create your password and activate your NYU Home account. - Activate Your NYU Email - Your NetID is the base of your NYU email address. For example, if your NetID is uc1234, then your NYU email will be - To activate your NYU email account, go to [home.nyu.edu](http://home.nyu.edu/), log in with your NetID and password. You should be able to access and set up your NYU email from there. - You will receive information about your @stern.nyu.edu email address at Orientation. You will be responsible for checking both your @nyu.edu and @stern.nyu.edu email addresses once the semester starts. ## **Step 4:** Apply for a DS-2019 (Certificate of Eligibility for a J-1 student visa) Apply through NYU’s Office of Global Services by following the instructions in the Acceptance Letter & Visa Sponsorship Instructions. You will need to activate your NetID/NYU Home account before you can complete the E-FORM application ## **English Language Ability (for Step 1)** All courses are conducted in English and involve discussion, group work and presentations that require strong English speaking and listening skills. - If you are from a partner university in Australia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, or from Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, you do not need to submit any proof of English language ability. - If you are in a degree program taught entirely in English, you must provide a letter on official letterhead, dated, and signed by your international office. It must describe how this English language ability was determined for entrance into the home university program. - If you do not fit into one of the two categories above, you must provide an approved English Proficiency Test - taken less then 2 years before the application deadline - with a score that meets these minimum requirements: - 100 and above on the TOEFL iBT (Home Edition Accepted) if taken on or before January 20, 2026 ; 5 or above (overall score and subscores) if taken on or after January 21, 2026 - 130 and above on the Duolingo English Test - 7.5 and above on the IELTS Academic - 70 and above on the PTE Academic - 191 and above on the Cambridge English Scale - 4.5 and above on the iTEP ## **Required Funding (for Step 4)** For the 2026/2027 Academic Year, students will be required to show the following funding amounts: **Semester 1 (Fall)** Living Expenses: $13,940 Health Insurance: $2,085 Total: $16,025 **Semester 2 (Spring)** Living Expenses: $13,940 Health Insurance: $3,312 Total: $17,252 **Full Academic Year** Living Expenses: $31,366 Health Insurance: $5,397 Total: $36,763 ****Important Dates**** ### **Fall Semester (September 2 - December 23, 2026)** - February 15th: Nominations due from Partner Schools - March 1st: Exchange Application Due - Mid-March: Housing Application - Mid-April: Course Registration and Visa Application - ​​​​​August 30: Expected Arrival Date - September 1: Mandatory Orientation *Note: Visa documents (to obtain student visa) will be emailed to you by late April* ### **Spring Semester (January 19 - May 12, 2027)** - August 14th: Nominations due from Partner Schools - September 1st: Exchange Application Due - Mid-November: Course Registration, Visa Application, and Housing Application - January 16-17: Expected Arrival Date - January 20: Mandatory Orientation *Note: Visa documents (to obtain a student visa) will be emailed to you in November*
