# Stern Student Deo Anant (BS '21) Reflects on Social Impact in Costa Rica Course

She highligts her time taking the [Social Impact Consulting in Costa Rica](https://www.stern.nyu.edu/portal-partners/current-students/undergraduate/global/short-term-immersions/stern-around-world-costa-rica) course with Professor [Tensie Whelan](https://www.stern.nyu.edu/experience-stern/about/departments-centers-initiatives/centers-of-research/center-sustainable-business/about-csb/our-team/about-tensie-whelan) and [Rachel Kowal](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiVgMXHmqHwAhWwGVkFHaq6BzYQFjAAegQIAxAD&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.stern.nyu.edu%2Ffaculty%2Fbio%2Frachel-kowal&usg=AOvVaw1gNbEeMnCUM5UY_jAEu1b0) as being memorable and rewarding.

The unique course provides students with the chance to learn and apply their knowledge of sustainability and consulting by working on a project for a small business in Costa Rica in areas such as agricultural production, eco-tourism, and environmental education for youth.

Students are then able to travel to Costa Rica on a week long class trip to test their business hypothesis and connect with local partners while immersing themselves in Costa Rican culture and the local sustainability industry.
