# The Effects of Power

1 Opinion July 8, 2015Power--having it, lacking it, wanting it, losing it--has profound effects on the work place. Anything from a quarterly loss to a major disaster may be traced back to the psychological effects of power, and how it can strongly affect cognition, perception, and behavior in systematic ways. Professor [Elizabeth Morrison](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/elizabeth-morrison) explains some of these effects and encourages both bosses and employees to examine their own roles and relationships with the awareness that power is a potent force.
