# MBA Students Take 2018 "Doing Business in… Singapore" Course

In January, a group of MBA students traveled to Asia for NYU Stern's "Doing Business in... Singapore" course. Highlights of the trip included lectures on business practices in emerging markets, cross-cultural negotiation and value-based market paradigms at the National University of Singapore Business School; a corporate visit to Marina Bay Sands; and a stop to explore the Singapore Airline Headquarters and Training Center.

“Much of the material we covered in lectures at the National University of Singapore and on corporate visits was taught and discussed from a perspective entirely different from the one we are used to hearing in the US,” said MBA student Allaire Coffin. “Professors discussed challenges that many Asian economies face, which we’ve often been taught are morally wrong (i.e. corruption), with a much lighter attitude of optimism for change and opportunity for growth. While looking at issues from different angles and keeping an open mind isn’t a new concept to the MBA curriculum, the way it was demonstrated during this trip really resonated with me. I believe this attitude will not only serve me well throughout the rest of my MBA coursework, but I think it will also make me a more valuable employee in the future and increase my abilities to tolerate ambiguity and problem solve creatively.”
