# Stern Faculty Go to Washington to Discuss Housing and the Economy

NYU Stern [Finance](/experience-stern/about/departments-centers-initiatives/academic-departments/finance) Professor [Matthew Richardson](http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/matthew-richardson) (above at the podium) speaks about reforming mortgage finance at a Conference on the GSEs, Housing and the Economy, hosted by Stern's [Salomon Center](/experience-stern/about/departments-centers-initiatives/centers-of-research/salomon-center-for-the-study-of-financial-institutions) and the Center for Financial Policy at the University at Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business on January 24, 2011.

Finance Professor [Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh](http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/stijn-van-nieuwerburgh) presented on the macroeconomic effects on housing, and Professors [Viral Acharya](http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/viral-acharya) and [Lawrence White](http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/lawrence-white) led a discussion on the Issues for GSE Reform.

These four professors are the co-authors of a forthcoming book on GSEs, [Guaranteed to Fail](/guaranteed-to-fail-book), to be published in March 2011.
