# Shifting the Investment Paradigm Discussion

On Wednesday, March 8, NYU Stern’s [Center for Business and Human Rights](/node/37830) welcomed Renee Beaumont, partner at Generation Investment Management, for an event entitled “Shifting the Investment Paradigm.” The discussion, which was moderated by Professor [Michael Posner](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/michael-posner), centered around the topic of the changing investment landscape and focused on sustainable long-term investing to create profit for shareholders.

Beaumont provided an overview of the foundation and evolution of Generation, which began in 2004, and explained the team’s sustainability-driven approach to investing. “Sustainability investing takes a long-term view,” explained Beaumont. “We look across industries to find products or services that can create value. We believe that focusing on sustainability is simply a better way to do business.”

Beaumont, who began her career in law, also shared details on her transition into the financial sector, citing a desire to follow her passion. “I felt like I learned something new every day and worked with the most incredible people,” she said on her first job at Goldman Sachs.
