# Prof. Lawrence White on recent legislation to regulate Tesla's vehicle sales

Excerpt from [Crain's New York](http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20140330/TRANSPORTATION/140329844/bill-to-run-tesla-off-road-is-amended#) -- "'To have this dealership model hardened into stone is purely protectionist and gets in the way of efficient distribution,' said NYU's Mr. [White](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/lawrence-white). Forcing Tesla—which makes relatively few cars and sells them at a high price point to a narrow consumer base—to engage in wholesale relationships with franchises would cripple the company and doom the franchises, he said."
