# In a live interview, Professor Charles Schreger explains the longstanding conflict between writers and their agents

Excerpt from [Bloomberg](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2019-04-16/hollywood-writers-and-agents-square-off-in-a-battle-over-fees-video) -- "The Writers Guild has a simple point of view, and the Writers Guild says that there's one legitimate way for a writer to be paid—for an agent to be paid—and that would be \[that\] he'd be paid by the client. They think that there's something unethical and perhaps illegal about being paid—about the agent being paid—from the production activity. So that's where it really begins."
