# Professor Kim Schoenholtz explains why he is against bringing back Glass-Steagall

Excerpt from the [Associated Press](http://bigstory.ap.org/article/dc356f26041f4be6a40aa03f797a4418/surprise-gop-looks-revive-depression-era-banking-law) -- "'The common thread with the bank failures in the 2007-2008 crisis was these banks were weakly capitalized, not that they had both investment bank and commercial bank operations,' said [Kim Schoenholtz](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/kim-schoenholtz), an economics professor at the New York University Stern School of Business. 'The goal of the people who want to bring back Glass-Steagall is to make the system safer. But this is just a bad idea.'"
