Johann D. Gaebler joined New York University Stern School of Business as an Assistant Professor of Technology, Operations, and Statistics in September 2026.

Gaebler develops statistical and computational methods to improve organizational decisions and public policy and to make AI systems safer and more trustworthy. Spanning responsible AI and alignment, algorithmic decision-making, and computational social science, his research builds conceptual and practical tools to address a diverse range of issues in education, hiring, criminal justice, elections, and news media. His work has informed litigation and policy, and appeared in venues including the *Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences*, the *Journal of Machine Learning Research*, and the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), where he received an Outstanding Paper Award in 2022; he also received the Best Paper Award at the Equity and Access in Algorithms, Mechanisms, and Optimization (EAAMO) Conference in 2024.

Before joining NYU Stern, Gaebler was a Stone PhD Scholar at Harvard University and a Knight-Hennessy Scholar at Stanford University. He received his AB in Mathematics and PhD in Statistics from Harvard University.
