Simon Bowmaker is Distinguished Clinical Professor at the Stern School of Business, New York University, where he teaches economics in the undergraduate and graduate MBA programs. His teaching awards include Stern’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Pedagogical Innovation in 2011; being named in Poets & Quants’ inaugural 2017 list of “Top 40 Undergraduate Business Professors” across the United States, Canada, and Europe; and being the recipient of a Great Professor award from the NYU Stern Executive MBA Class of 2024.

Outside of the classroom, Professor Bowmaker studies the working lives of economists to understand their contribution to the field and to society. This interest has led to his three most recent books, *When the President Calls: Conversations with Economic Policymakers* (MIT Press, 2019)*, The Art and Practice of Economics Research: Lessons from Leading Minds* (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2012), and *The Heart of Teaching Economics: Lessons from Leading Minds* (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2010). His first book, *Economics Uncut: A Complete Guide to Life, Death and Misadventure* (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2005), applied economics to controversial and unconventional markets. His latest book, *Fed Reckoning: Conversations on America’s Central Bank*, will be published by Yale University Press in 2027. Work from his books has been featured in numerous media outlets, including *The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Reuters, Politico, The Bulwark, and Forbes*.

Prior to joining Stern, Professor Bowmaker taught for several years at the University of Edinburgh and held visiting teaching positions at Florida State University, State University of New York at Buffalo, University of Colorado Denver, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Queensland University of Technology in Australia. Whilst at Stern, he has also taught at the University of Texas at Austin, Stanford University, Imperial College London, and the London School of Economics.

Before pursuing an academic career, he served as UK Economist at HSBC Markets in London, and was an economist at the British Government Economic Service and Cambridge Econometrics. Professor Bowmaker received his M.A. in Economics (First Class Honours) from the University of Aberdeen, his M.Phil. in Economics from the University of Cambridge, and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of St Andrews.
