# Faculty Awards & Accolades – January 2017 1 Research Highlights January 1, 2017 ![](/sites/default/files/styles/246w/public/assets/images/trophy-article.jpg?itok=9-13tVO7)> The Government of India has appointed Professor **[Viral Acharya](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/viral-acharya)** as the [Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)](/node/52941), where he will be in charge of monetary policy, foreign exchange and market operations, as well as research and statistics. Additionally, the Bank for International Settlements has appointed Professor Acharya as its 2017 [Alexandre Lamfalussy Senior Research Fellow](http://www.bis.org/research/lamfalussyfellows/appointment2017.htm). The American Marketing Association Foundation recently recognized Professor **[Alixandra Barasch](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/alixandra-barasch)** as an honorable mention recipient of the 2016 [John A. Howard/AMA Doctoral Dissertation Award](http://themarketingfoundation.org/howard.html). The 2017 *Forbes* list of "[30 Under 30 in Science](http://www.forbes.com/30-under-30-2017/science/#30e602652eb4)," which recognizes leading change-makers and innovators across the US, featured Professor **[Xi Chen](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/xi-chen)** for his work on machine learning and data science with applications for business, medicine and more. Professors **[Sonia Marciano](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/sonia-marciano)** and **[Glenn Okun](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/glenn-okun)** were voted “Great Professors” by the Executive MBA class of January 2017. The American Finance Association awarded Professor **[Johannes Stroebel](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/johannes-stroebel)** first place in the [2016 Brattle Group Prize](http://www.afajof.org/details/page/2870731/Prizes.html), an annual honor which recognizes the top corporate finance paper published in the *Journal of Finance*.
