On October 24, NYU Stern hosted a fireside chat and reception to honor Professor [Paul Romer](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/paul-romer) winning the 2018 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. The event opened with remarks from NYU President Andrew Hamilton, followed by William R. Berkley (BS ’66), chair of the NYU Board of Trustees, chair emeritus of the NYU Stern Board of Overseers; Clayton Gillette, director of the NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management; and Donald B. Marron, NYU Life Trustee. Following a standing ovation, Professor Romer sat down with Dean [Raghu Sundaram](http://www.stern.nyu.edu/faculty/bio/rangarajan-sundaram) for a conversation where he shared stories from his career and insights from his Nobel Prize-winning research.The standing-room-only event brought together NYU Trustees, members of the Stern Board of Overseers, and Stern alumni, students, staff and faculty. After the discussion and audience Q&A, guests adjourned for a reception where NYU Provost Katherine Fleming gave a toast.

Professor Romer created the NYU Stern Urbanization Project in 2011 and was the founding director of the NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management. In awarding the honor, the Nobel Committee cited Professor Romer's contributions "for integrating technological innovations into long-run macroeconomic analysis."
