Program Requirements

**Year 1**  **Fall** Microeconomics I (GSAS)       Econometrics I (Stern)       Macroeconomics I (GSAS)       Math for Economists I (GSAS)     **Spring** Microeconomics II (GSAS)       Econometrics II (Stern or GSAS)       Macroeconomics II (GSAS)       Math for Economists II (GSAS)       Comprehensive exams in Microeconomics (GSAS) &amp;
Macroeconomics (GSAS)    **Note**: To maintain good standing in the program, students must pass both comprehensive exams—either in the Spring of Year 1 or in the Fall of Year 2.       **Year 2**  **Fall &amp; Spring** Six electives\*, and attendance at workshops both semesters            **Note**: Two electives may be taken in the Fall of Year 3.   **Year 3** **Spring** Research Paper    **Note**: To maintain good standing in the program, a student must complete a research paper by the end of Year 3. The paper must be approved and signed by a faculty member of the Stern Economics Department.       **Year 4** **Fall
Spring** Proposal Defense
Seminar Presentation    **Note**: To maintain good standing in the program, a student must complete his/her proposal defense by the end of the Fall semester of Year 4, and present his/her own work at a seminar by the end of Year 4.   Students are expected to take a number of math courses at Courant.

**STRATEGY TRACK**
The requirements for the Strategy track are the same as those above, with the additional requirement of Strategy I and Strategy II courses and a Strategy comprehensive exam at the end of year 2.
