What is your most treasured NYC spot?Running along the West Side Highway at sunset is a great place to unwind. It's one of few places in New York where you can run without navigating through the masses and take in the incredible city views.
What has been your favorite class at Stern?Professor Pettit's Leadership in Organizations class is one of the best classes I've taken at Stern. It's one of the few three-hour classes I've had, but he manages to keep everyone engaged through countless in-class exercises that test your critical thinking and judgement skills. His class feels like how Malcolm Gladwell books read.
How have you found a sense of community and support within Stern? The first people I met at Stern were the veterans in my class. Through the Fertitta Veterans Scholarship, we started taking summer classes before LAUNCH and I found the military community to be incredibly tight. Additionally, I became very close with the people I recruited with in the Graduate Finance Association. You spend a lot of time going to events all over the city with each other and will inevitably get to know the people you recruit with the best.
How has the Office of Career Development helped to prepare you for success? The Office of Career Development has a very structured and streamlined process for Investment Banking recruiting. Stern's Alumni have a significant presence at a vast majority of the investment banks in New York City, which gives candidates a unique opportunity to engage with them in-person throughout the process. As a result, students tend to place very well within this industry.
Why did you choose Stern?I was living in California and really wanted to move to New York City. As a career-switcher, I felt like there were tremendous growth opportunities here and I wanted to be in the mix. Additionally, Stern has a great track record of performing well in the investment banking recruiting process and I wanted to give myself the best chances at working at the best possible firms.
What has been the highlight of your time at Stern? The Spring Break trek to Israel was a great time. It was the perfect balance between visiting historical sites and learning about the culture, while also getting a chance to eat at some of the country's best restaurants and explore the nightlife. I was also able to meet a lot of new friends from Stern's Langone and focused-MBA programs.
