International Studies Program

Experience global business firsthand

Since 2001, the Barr Family International Studies Program (ISP) has explored the economic, cultural and political histories of countries. Every Stern junior pursuing a Business degree or BPE degree (beginning with BPE Class of '17) completes the one-of-a-kind course during the spring semester. ISP presents the real-world opportunities and challenges for international firms today.

This semester-long course includes an international trip during Spring Break to one of three cities in Asia, Europe or South America. Students travel overseas together, focus on a specific industry, meet with company executives and observe a country’s culture firsthand. ISP culminates in the hallmark ISP Competition where students compete in small groups, and present a capstone assignment to classmates, professors and deans.

Recent ISP locations include:
  • Barcelona, Spain
  • Budapest, Hungary
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Santiago, Chile
  • Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
  • Singapore
ISP is made possible thanks to the generous support of Stern alumnus and Overseer Edward Barr and his wife Nancy.
