General Information

What modes of instruction are available for open enrollment courses?
NYU Stern offers three different formats for open enrollment courses:
1. In-person courses lasting about 2 - 5 days each.
2. Live online courses lasting about 3 - 10 days each.
3. Online courses lasting about 4 - 15 weeks each.

When are courses offered?
Open enrollment courses are offered year-round. Please check our full course catalog for upcoming programs.

Are courses eligible for academic credit?
NYU Stern open enrollment courses are not eligible for credit toward a degree, but participants receive a Certificate of Achievement upon completion.

Do course participants receive NYU alumni status?
Participation in NYU Stern open enrollment courses does not grant alumni status or access to alumni services. We do, however, offer networking opportunities for students that have successfully completed a course.

Can I take more than one course at a time?
In-person courses run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays and require 2 - 5 days of attendance. Likewise, live online courses require 3 - 10 days of live virtual attendance. As a result, you cannot take multiple in-person or live online courses at the same time.
However, students are welcome to take multiple online courses at once, or a combination of online, in-person and live online courses. Please be mindful of the typical course workload and the amount of time you are able to devote to each course before registering for multiple programs.

Course Application and Enrollment Process

What are your admissions criteria?
In-person and live online courses recommend at least five years of professional experience, while online courses are open to all interested students. Each course page includes a "Participant Demographics" section that lists additional admission recommendations.

When is the deadline to apply for a course?
Students are enrolled on a first come, first served basis. We recommend applying as early as possible to reserve your place as space may be limited.

How do I register for a course?

I want to register for a specific course, but I cannot make any of the dates scheduled on your website. What can I do?
Please fill out our course notification email sign-up form. You will receive an email alert once more dates are confirmed.

International Participation in Courses

Are NYU Stern in-person and online courses open to international participants?
Absolutely! Our participants come from over 100 countries around the globe. In-person course participants are required to travel to New York to attend. For online courses, the materials, quizzes, and exams are provided with a completion window in order to accommodate time zone differences.

Do I need to provide an English language certification in order to participate in a course?
Proficiency in written and spoken English is required. However, we do not require English language certification or any international English exam scores such as TOEFL or IELTS prior to enrolling.

Payments, Discounts and Refund Policy

Do you offer any financial aid or scholarships?
We do not offer any financial aid or scholarships; however, we do provide discounts to: NYU Employees, NYU Alumni and Students, Non-Profit Organizations, Active-Duty U.S. Military, Corporate Partners, and Returning Executive Education Participants. You may also qualify for a discount if you are registering multiple people for one course, or if you are registering yourself for multiple courses. Please contact us for more information.

How can I pay my course tuition?
Payment should be made at time of registration via credit card. During the checkout process, you may also request an invoice to pay via credit card or wire transfer at a later time. Please note that your enrollment is not finalized until we receive full payment of your invoice.

Does NYU Stern offer refunds on course tuition?
In-person and live online courses: All notifications of withdrawals, transfers, and substitutions must be emailed to execed@stern.nyu.edu prior to the start of the course. NYU Stern Executive Education does not offer refunds except under two specific circumstances:
1. NYU Stern Executive Education will provide a full refund only if the participant is unable to secure a valid US visa to attend an in-person course. Proper documentation from the appropriate government body will need to be submitted to NYU Stern to receive the refund.
2. NYU Stern Executive Education reserves the right to cancel any program at any time. If a program is canceled, NYU Stern's liability is limited to a full refund of the program fee already paid.
NYU Stern Executive Education is not responsible for travel or related costs under any circumstances. Participants may want to consider purchasing trip cancellation insurance in the unlikely event that a program is cancelled or they cannot attend for personal or professional reasons.

Online courses: All notifications of withdrawals must be emailed to stern.online@stern.nyu.edu, and refunds are issued on the following schedule:
1. Withdrawal notification received within 7 days of the first day of the course: 100% refund
2. Withdrawal notification received between 8 and 14 days after the first day of the course: 70% refund
3. Withdrawal notification received more than 14 days after the first day of the course: 0% refund

*Please note that all refunds are subject to a processing fee.

Can I transfer my enrollment to another course?
In-person and live online courses: Transfer requests must be sent in writing to execed@stern.nyu.edu prior to the start of the course. One transfer to a subsequent program of equal or lesser value will be permitted within 12 months of the original program's start date, provided that there are seats available in the requested program. If the participant would like to transfer to a program of higher monetary value, then they are responsible to pay any overages.

Online courses: No, students are not permitted to defer their enrollment. Students wishing to enroll in another offering of the course must drop the course and reapply to a future course offering.

In-person Certificate Courses

What are in-person courses?
NYU Stern in-person courses are two- to five-day, non-degree, open enrollment courses that cover a variety of essential business topics. Learn more about these courses here.

What is a typical program like?
You can learn what to expect from a typical NYU Stern in-person course here. Additionally, each course page includes that program's agenda.

Will I receive any preparatory materials in advance of the course? If so, when?
Yes. Approximately two weeks in advance of the course start date, the Program Manager will send you an email with materials and logistical information. Learn more on our What to Expect page.

What is the recommended attire for class days?
The dress code for all short courses is business casual. We also recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater as classroom temperatures may vary.

Does NYU Stern provide Internet access?
Yes, free internet access is available while at NYU Stern. WiFi login information will be provided on the first day of the program. You may encounter connectivity issues if using a work laptop. Please let us know if this is the case and we will take you down to our IT department to resolve the problem.

How do I get to New York City? How do I get around?
New York City is surrounded by three major airports: John F. Kennedy, La Guardia or Newark Airport. It is also accessible via train and bus. Once in Manhattan, you can get around through public transportation or by taxi. Please visit our Logistics and Directions page for more information.

Where should I stay while in New York?
There are a number of excellent hotels within the vicinity of our campus. Please view a list of options on our Logistics and Directions page.

Do I need a special visa to attend an in-person course?
We do not have any specific visa requirements in order to attend our programs. Please visit the U.S. Department of State's website here for more information about visas.

Does NYU Stern provide offer letters for visas?
We only issue visa invitation letters for participants who have fully paid the program tuition. Once you have paid your tuition, please contact us to request a visa letter.

What is included in the course tuition?
The program tuition includes fees, program materials, breakfast, lunch and catered coffee and tea breaks. Accommodation and travel is not included in the fee.

Live Online Certificate Programs

What are live online courses?
NYU Stern live online courses are our in-person courses redesigned for remote delivery. Professionals can take part from anywhere in the world. Learn more about our live online courses here.

What is a typical program like?
Live online courses take place in real time with live instructors, and include all of the hallmarks of our in-person programming: discussion, breakout sessions, hands-on exercises and more. Also like our in-person courses, live online courses are intensive programs usually scheduled during regular work hours (Eastern Time Zone), and live attendance is required. Additionally, each live online course page includes that program's agenda.

Will I receive any preparatory materials in advance of the course? If so, when?
Yes. Approximately two weeks in advance of the course start date, the Program Manager will send you an email with materials and logistical information.

Online Certificate Courses

Are the courses entirely online?
Yes. All materials, videos, quizzes and exams are held online.

What is the typical workload for a course?
On average, students spend around eight to fifteen hours per week working on the course material. Some students may require more time than this and some may require less in order to master the material.

What is a pilot course?
Our pilot courses are courses being offered for the first time.

Are online course videos subtitled?
Yes, all of our videos are subtitled in English.

How long will course content be available?
You will have access to the course site (including all messages, assignments, videos, resources, etc.) until 30 days after the course concludes.

Enterprise Learning Programs

What is enterprise learning?
NYU Stern faculty and the Executive Education team partner with organizations from around the world to design, develop and deliver specialized professional development programs. Learn more about our solutions here.

How many people can participate in a enterprise learning program?
Our enterprise learning programs are typically designed for groups of 20 - 40 employees from an organization. However, we are able to work with your organization to develop a program that fits your needs.

What is the price of an NYU Stern enterprise learning solution?
Pricing is based on a number of factors, including program length, number of participants and where the program is held. Please contact us for more details.

Will participants receive a certificate for attending an enterprise learning program?
Yes, participants who complete an NYU Stern program will receive a certificate of participation.
