The Leonard N. Stern School of Business Graduate Convocation Ceremony took place on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Radio City Music Hall.

The winners of this year’s NYU Stern Entrepreneurs Challenge received more than $200,000 in seed money and in-kind support. After pitching their venture ideas, the five winning teams, each led by NYU students, were chosen by a panel of judges from the venture capital, technology and social enterprise sectors.

The 2012 Volatility Institute Conference on "Comovement of Volatilities, Returns and Tails" will feature BlackRock’s Chief Risk Officer Bennett Golub and an update on Stern’s V-Lab from Nobel Laureate Professor Robert Engle.

The third annual Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards, hosted at NYU Stern, honored several leading disruptive innovators who have impacted the worlds of business, technology, arts and entertainment. Founder of Twitter and Square Jack Dorsey and Room to Read founder John Wood received the Lifetime Achievement awards. Other honorees ranged from pop star Justin Bieber and Rick Rubin, who founded Def Jam Records in his NYU dorm room, to Steven A. Curley for his advances in cancer treatments and Dr. Patricia Bath, the first person to demonstrate Laserphaco cataract surgery.

Stern’s annual Passport Day will be held on Thursday, April 26th, as MBA students from all cultural backgrounds share their rich heritage with fellow classmates.

On April 26, NYU Stern’s Association of Hispanic and Black Business Students (AHBBS) and NYU Wagner’s Black Student Alliance (BSA) co-hosted Maggie Anderson, author of "Our Black Year: One Family's Quest to Buy Black in America's Racially Divided Economy" (published by PublicAffairs, February 2012).

The Stern Center for Global Economy and Business presents Dr. Ewald Nowotny, Governor of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and Member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. Governor Nowotny will discuss “Monetary Issues - The European View.”

In an April 23rd, 2012 plenary to the NYU Stern UC Class of 2015, Professor Arun Sundararajan describes India's fascinating digital identity initiative, shares video clips of his conversations with UIDAI Chairman Nandan Nilekani, and outlines a research program with Professor Ravi Bapna and ISB Hyderabad that will measure the socioeconomic impact of the UID over the coming decade.

Sponsored by the NET Institute and the Center for Global Economy and Business, the 2012 NET Institute Conference on Network Economics will feature speakers from Google, the Federal Trade Commission, Microsoft Research New England, NYU Stern, Princeton University, University of Cambridge, Harvard Business School, Stanford University and other prominent research institutions from around the world.

The NYU Stern Latin American Business Association’s (LABA) third annual conference is themed, “The Latin American Decade: Emerging Challenges and New Opportunities.” The conference will feature a slate of distinguished speakers who will explore areas where today's business students can make an impact within the Latin American markets. The conference will close with a fireside chat on “Using Reform Zones to Change Norms and Law” with Professor Paul Romer, who developed the charter cities concept, and Octavio Sanchez, the Chief of Staff to the President of Honduras.

On April 20, the NYU Stern Latin American Business Association (LABA) held its third annual conference, “The Latin American Decade: Emerging Challenges and New Opportunities.” The conference closed with a fireside chat, titled, “Using Reform Zones to Change Norms and Law,” with Professor Paul Romer and Octavio Sanchez, the Chief of Staff to the President of Honduras. The two speakers discussed Professor Romer’s charter city concept and the economic and political climate in Honduras.

The second annual EEX Summit, themed “Build Something.” will focus on the brainstorming phase of a venture life cycle. The event will feature keynote speakers Dan Porter, CEO of OMGPOP, and John Maloney, president at Tumblr, as well as diverse panels, a Cool Product Expo (presented by 10 freshly minted NY startups), a cocktail reception for mingling, and more.

The Center for Measurable Marketing will host Social@Ogilvy’s Global Managing Director John Bell to discuss “The Value of Integrated Social Media Marketing: A Sales Impact Study.”

On April 19, as part of their Student Luncheon Lecture Series, the NYU Pollack Center for Law and Business hosted Preet Bharara, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York who manages the investigation and litigation of all criminal and civil cases filed on behalf of the United States in New York, Bronx, Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Sullivan counties.

Bloomberg, City of New York.

First year NYU Stern MBA students Jen Hayes, Maria Medina and Stacey Anker (not pictured) were awarded First Place in the 2012 Macy's MBA Challenge. The winning team members took home a $1,000 prize and were invited to Macy's headquarters to present their case to various executives from Macy's Inc. including Martine Reardon, Chief Marketing Officer, and Terry Lundgren, Chief Executive Officer.

NYU Stern’s Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation presents Alex Osterwalder, co-author of "Business Model Generation," as part of the Himelberg Speaker Series. Osterwalder will share insights on how to develop a disruptive business model. His Business Model Canvas, a tool to visualize, challenge and reinvent business models, is used by leading organizations around the world.

Dean Peter Henry, with current MBA students and faculty, rang the NASDAQ Closing Bell in Times Square in New York City.

Former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board Paul Volcker spoke with a group of more than 100 students at the seventh annual Haitkin Lecture, organized by Stern’s Business & Society Program Area. Looking at the prospects for financial reform, Volcker underscored the importance of government oversight in today’s markets and stressed the critical role of internal controls in banks.

NYU students walked the red carpet this month at the ProMotion Pictures Gala to celebrate the University’s 2011-2012 partnership with SUBWAY® and Content & Co. Through the ProMotion Pictures Program, graduate students from the Stern and Tisch Schools joined forces to produce branded entertainment as part of the Subway Fresh Artists™ Challenge. Hosted at the Tribeca Cinemas, the event featured screenings of two winning web series, produced by NYU students.

On March 26, Jared Cohen, Director of Google Ideas, spoke to Stern MBA students, sharing his story as part of the first Stern Signature Series event, a student-designed speaker series.

More than 80 students, faculty and alumni gathered for a fireside chat about global innovation with Vijay Vaitheeswaran, award-winning global correspondent for The Economist and author of Need, Speed and Greed (Harper Collins, Mar '12), and Professor Paul Romer, director of NYU Stern’s Urbanization Project.
