Trust Possible

volcker silber event 231x261

NYU Stern alumni and students filled Paulson Auditorium on October 15 to hear Professor William Silber discuss his newly published biography of Paul Volcker, “Volcker: The Triumph of Persistence.” His remarks were followed by The Wall Street Journal’s Money and Investing Reporter Francesco Guerrera’s interview of former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker and Prof. Silber.

Highlighting the role of trust in Volcker’s career, Prof. Silber focused on three times where Mr. Volcker’s “no,” was trusted and prevailed. The first, “no to gold” was in August 15, 1971, when the link between gold and paper was severed; the second “no to inflation” came on October 6, 1979; and the third “no to bank speculation” in January 2010, with President Obama’s announcement of the Volcker Rule.
