Only At Stern: NYU Stern Professor Aswath Damodaran on teaching equity valuation

NYU Stern Professor Aswath Damodaran is the Kerschner Family Chair in Finance Education. Dubbed “The Dean of Valuation” by the media, his insights frequently drive headlines.

He has written multiple books on equity valuation, corporate finance, portfolio management, and one on strategic risk taking as well as narrative and numbers. His next book, on Corporate Lifecycles, is slated for a 2024 release. His research has been published by top finance journals, including the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Review of Financial Studies

Many of Professor Damodaran’s insights start with a post on his blog, “Musings on Markets.” These blogs have been read more than 25 million times and have made him a go-to source to explain the latest financial news

And Professor Damodaran brings all of this expertise into the classroom. He describes valuation as not science or an art but a craft: something you improve the more you practice.

He joined NYU Stern in 1986 and over the last three and a half decades, he has earned a host of recognitions for his teaching. He was the youngest professor to be recognized with NYU’s University-wide Distinguished Teaching Award and nine graduation classes have chosen him for the Stern School of Business Excellence in Teaching Award.

Business Week recognized him as one of the top 12 b-school professors in the US. And a Business Week poll of MBAs named Damodaran as the most popular b-school professor in the country.
