Biography

Jessy Hsieh is a Clinical Associate Professor of Management Communication at New York University’s Stern School of Business. Professor Hsieh joined Stern in 2010 as a Junior Research Scientist in the Center for Digital Economy Research and began teaching as an adjunct instructor in 2013. She has taught every required communication course and component in Stern’s part-time MBA, full-time MBA, 1-year accelerated MBA, and undergraduate programs.

Professor Hsieh’s interdisciplinary scholarship explores how accelerated advances in technology, such as generative artificial intelligence and associated platforms, transform modern conceptions of work, learning, and value creation. Her doctoral dissertation, “Co-Temporality as Classroom: A Strategy for Andragogy Amidst the Specter of Automation,” constructs a decision-making framework for the future world of work by examining and establishing underlying core principles in the practice of educating adults.

Professor Hsieh is a member of NYU’s Teaching Advancement Grant Committee, Stern’s Undergraduate Program Committee, and Stern’s Undergraduate College A.I. Committee. From 2020 through 2024, she served as the course faculty lead for Organizational Communication and its Social Context, and has consulted for the Stern Teaching Effectiveness Program since 2022.

Professor Hsieh has held several university administration positions, including Administrative Director for the Multinational Institute of American Studies at Steinhardt, Senior Associate Director for Innovation, and Associate Director for Graduate Education at Stern. Prior to joining Stern, Professor Hsieh was an Assistant Vice President at Deutsche Bank, where she investigated international money laundering trends and reported potential suspicious activity, which included loan origination applications for collateralized debt obligations.

Professor Hsieh received her PhD and MPhil in International Education from the Department of Applied Statistics, Social Sciences, & Humanities at Steinhardt, her MBA in Economics, Global Business, & Management from Stern, and her BA in East Asian Studies from Columbia University.
