About Raveesh Mayya

Professor Raveesh Mayya's research spans two streams at the core of today's digital economy: (a) platform policy changes and their consequences, and (b) GenAI and its impact on innovation and knowledge work.

In the first stream, he is deeply interested in understanding policy changes introduced by digital platforms, from online sharing markets to smartphone app stores, to enhance the choice and control that consumers have on the platform. His research investigates how suppliers respond to such policy changes and how such responses affect their marketplace outcomes, with the goal of informing both regulators and platform owners.

In the second stream, he examines how Generative AI transforms knowledge work, with a focus on the supply side of the knowledge economy (programmers, researchers), including how to make its benefits accessible to speakers of low-resource languages.

Professor Mayya's research has been featured among the best papers at multiple conferences, including the AOM Annual Meeting, WISE, WHICEB, CIST, the International Conference of Smart Finance, ICIS, and the AI in Management Conference. He has received several prestigious awards, such as the ISS Gordon B. Davis Young Scholar Award (2025), the Management Science Meritorious Service Award (2025), the ISR Best Reviewer Award (2024), and the Management Science Distinguished Service Award (2023). During his Ph.D., he received all three prestigious Ph.D.-wide awards at the Smith School of Business (the Outstanding Dissertation Award, the Allan N. Nash Award, and the Frank T. Paine Award), and was also honored with the Distinguished Teaching Award. He was also chosen as the inaugural Provost's ECFI Ambassador for the Center for Faculty Advancement at NYU, and serves on the Editorial Review Board of Information Systems Research (ISR)

Outside academia, Professor Mayya has had stints at the Mahindra Group, Cisco Systems, and Sensara Technologies, and is now a Scientific Advisor at LoopDesk AI. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University (PESIT Bengaluru) and his MBA from the University of Delhi (FMS Delhi). He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Smith School of Business, University of Maryland.
