Additional Submissions by Waitlisted Applicants
The Admissions Committee reserves the right to make final decisions on waitlisted applications prior to receiving additional information. Materials received after a final decision will not affect that decision.

Application Fee Waivers
U.S. military members or U.S. veterans who have served active duty, Teach for America, and Teach for India program alumni, and Forté MBALaunch alumnae are eligible for application fee waivers. Prior to submitting your application, please submit the Application Fee Waiver Request Form for application fee waiver consideration. The Admissions Committee will review these requests within 5 business days. Please plan ahead and allow ample time prior to submitting your application, especially during high-volume times around the application deadlines.

Applicants who are applying from one of our four 4+1 program partner schools (NYU Abu Dhabi; NYU Shanghai; University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy; and SolBridge International School of Business, Korea) are also eligible for application fee waivers. Please submit the Application Fee Waiver Request Form and include a scanned copy of your transcripts.

If you are experiencing economic challenges and would like to request an application fee waiver, please submit the Application Fee Waiver Request Form. Requests should include a rationale for the application fee waiver and will be considered by the Admissions Committee on a case-by-case basis.

Once an application fee is paid by an applicant, it is non-refundable. Please be sure to fill out the request form prior to paying your application fee if you wish to be considered for a waiver.

Applying prior to Completing your Undergraduate Degree
If you submit your application prior to the conferral of your bachelor's degree or equivalent, we will accept and evaluate your application. This will not delay the evaluation of your application. If an offer of admission is made, it will be contingent upon graduating from your undergraduate program prior to the first day of class. An undergraduate degree is required to enroll in the MS in Accounting program.

Change of Contact Information
It is the applicant’s responsibility to update NYU Stern immediately with any new contact information. Failure to update your contact information may result in you missing key information, which could jeopardize your admission and/or place in the class.

NYU Stern is not responsible for any technological issues (including email filters, etc.) that prevent applicants from receiving our communications.

Citizenship Status: U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
By checking you are a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, you are attesting that you are in fact a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States by the definition of US Citizenship and Immigration Services at the time you submit your application. (A Permanent Resident or Lawful Permanent Resident is any person not a citizen of the United States who is living in the US under legally recognized and lawful recorded permanent residence as an immigrant.  Also known as "permanent resident alien," "resident alien permit holder," and "Green Card Holder.") If you have applied for but have not yet been approved as a US Permanent Resident, you must apply as an international student and provide an explanation in the optional essay. Should your citizenship or permanent resident status change prior to enrolling at NYU Stern, it is your responsibility to update the Admissions Committee.

Deferred Admission/Leave of Absence
NYU Stern does not grant admissions deferrals. If you are admitted and decide not to enroll, you may re-apply for a future term. Leaves of absence are not granted to students who find that they cannot begin the program in the semester for which they were admitted or who cannot successfully complete one course in that first semester (obtaining a grade of C+ or better). All other Academic Affairs and Advising Policies apply.

Enrollment Deposit
If admitted, you will be required to pay two non-refundable deposits to hold your place in the class by the deadlines stated in your admission letter. Typically, the initial deposit is due two weeks from the date of your admission. For those applying during the 2023-2024 admissions cycle (Class of 2025), the deposits are each $500 USD. These enrollment deposits will not be refunded for any reason.

Final Decisions
The Admissions Committee reserves the right to make an admissions decision at any point in the process even if the application is not fully complete or missing components or does not meet eligibility requirements. All admissions decisions are final.

GMAT/GRE Waiver

There are two ways an applicant may qualify for a GMAT/GRE test waiver.

1). Pre-Approval:  applicants who meet certain criteria are automatically exempt from taking a test without needing to request approval (see below)

2). Request for Approval:  applicants who do not meet the pre-approval criteria may request to be approved by the Admissions Committee under certain circumstances (see below)

Pre-Approval of Waiver

Applicants who meet certain criteria are eligible to waive the GMAT/GRE requirements for the MS in Accounting program without pre-approval from the Admissions Committee. Candidates wishing to waive the GMAT/GRE must meet the following conditions:

  • Have earned a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the U.S. Please note that this must be a U.S. undergraduate institution; therefore, a degree from an institution outside of the U.S. does not qualify. Graduate degrees will also not qualify.
  • Have earned a final undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher on a four-point scale at the time of degree conferral. GPAs below 3.00 may not be rounded up to 3.00 for pre-approval. For GPAs close to a 3.00, use the request for approval process below.
  • Have majored in:
    • Accountancy
    • Accounting
    • Economics
    • Finance
    • Business (see detailed list of eligible business majors below)
      • Advertising (This major will only be approved if it was completed at a business school within your undergraduate college.)
      • Business
      • Business Administration
      • Business Economics
      • Business Management
      • Commerce
      • Entrepreneurship
      • Hospitality Management
      • Information Systems
      • Information Technology (This major will only be approved if it was completed at a business school within your undergraduate college.)
      • International Business
      • Management
      • Management and Entrepreneurship
      • Marketing
      • Supply Chain and Operations

If you check one of the two boxes in the GMAT/GRE Test Waiver form of the application and meet the eligibility criteria, the Admissions Committee will waive the standardized test requirement for your application.

Request for Approval of Waiver

In cases outside of the parameters of the pre-approval process, applicants can still request to be considered.  Please note such approvals are at the sole discretion of the Admissions Committee and are not subject to appeal. All decisions are final.

Please note, to make a waiver request you must have earned a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university located in the U.S.

Some examples of possible requests could include the following:

  • Majored in business and have a final GPA close to a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Majored in business at a college or university that does not grade on a 4.0 scale, but earned the equivalent of about a 3.0 GPA if it was on a 4.0 scale
  • Your major is not listed as a business major on the pre-approved list, but you believe it may qualify as a business major
  • Have earned a graduate degree in business from an U.S. college or university

To request a waiver, please submit the MS in Accounting Test Waiver Request form. Requests must be made no later than 15 days prior to the application deadline.

Important Notes
Applicants who are applying prior to the completion of their undergraduate degree must have earned the required GPA at the time of application to be eligible to waive the GMAT/GRE. Applicants must maintain the required minimum GPA through the completion of their undergraduate degree.
