Reflecting a societal need for leaders with both practical business training and a thorough understanding of public sector management, the dual MBA/MPA program produces graduates who are ready to make an immediate impact in those institutions most in need of strong leadership.

The MBA/MPA program is a partnership between NYU Stern and the Wagner School of Public Service, and is designed for students with interests spanning business, public administration, public health and non-profit management. Students are able to complete both degrees over the course of three years, instead of the four years that it would take to complete the MBA and MPA degrees independently. The first year of the dual degree program is spent at NYU Stern, and the second and third years are split between the two schools.

Admission to the MBA/MPA Program

Applicants to the MBA/MPA program will complete a joint application that is evaluated independently by each school. While no additional admissions standards are applied to dual degree applications at either school, students qualify for the dual degree program only upon admission to both NYU Stern and the Wagner School of Public Service. Please note that it is possible to be admitted to both programs, only one program, or neither program in this process.

Individuals who already hold one or both of the individual degrees are not eligible for admission to the MBA/MPA program.

Program Structure

The MBA/MPA dual degree takes three years to complete, as opposed to the four years that it would typically take to complete both degrees separately. MBA/MPA students spend the first year at NYU Stern, and their second and third years are split between the two schools. To view a sample schedule, visit the Academic Affairs website.

MBA/MPA students register with either the Wagner School of Public Service or NYU Stern depending on where they are taking the majority of their credits in a particular semester.

Tuition & Financial Aid

MBA/MPA students pay full tuition and fees at the school through which they are registered each semester. If a student exceeds the maximum number of per-semester credits and/or courses permitted by the school in which she/he is registered, the tuition and fees for the additional credits must be paid to that school.

Merit scholarships are awarded based on a holistic review of the admissions application to each school. Financial aid, including federal and private loans, is administered by the school in which a student is registered in a particular semester. In addition, students may be eligible to obtain Teaching Fellowship or Graduate Assistantship positions, many of which offer tuition remission, at the school in which they are registered.
