Biography

Charles McGill joined New York University Stern School of Business as an Adjunct Professor of Finance in 1999.

Professor McGill is a nationally recognized expert in mergers and acquisitions, corporate strategic planning and restructuring, and negotiating with significant industry experience in consumer products, restaurants and food service, and information services. He is currently a principal in private equity as an advisor with several leading private equity firms including Saratoga Partners, The Borealis Fund and CSFB Private Equity.

Previously, in senior executive positions at Fortune Brands, Dun & Bradstreet, Ogden Corporation, The Pillsbury Company/Diageo plc and W.R. Grace, Professor McGill planned and closed over 120 acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances and divestitures valued in aggregate at more than $13 billion. The broad list of American companies that he acquired includes Haagen-Dazs ice cream; Bumble Bee tuna; Jeno's pizza; Geyser Peak wines; El Torito, Chart House and Houlihan's restaurant chains; and The Gartner Group, an information services consultant.

After receiving an M.B.A. from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College, he joined Cresap, McCormick and Paget (then one of the top three global consulting firms) as a strategic consultant to clients including Monsanto, Sandoz and Chesebrough-Ponds and also helped establish the firm's Australian practice.

In addition to teaching at Stern and as an executive-in-residence at the Tuck School, he lectures frequently on corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions and negotiating and is a principal contributor to New Product Development - a business school textbook.

Professor McGill has been a director of several companies and non-profit organizations and is currently a charter trustee of Trinity College serving on its executive, investment, development (co-chair) and capital campaign committees; a trustee of the United States Naval Academy Foundation; and a trustee of The Nantucket Atheneum. He and his wife recently established the McGill International Studies Fund at Trinity College focused on increasing students' sensitivities to global opportunities and responsibilities.

Professor McGill earned his B.A. from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps. He earned his M.B.A. from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
