Frederick D.S. Choi is the Distinguished Service Professor of Business and Dean Emeritus at New York University’s Stern School of Business. Dean Choi has been with NYU for more than 30 years. He is a dedicated educator of graduate and undergraduate students and an innovative leader. He formerly served as Chairman of the Department of Accounting, Taxation, and Business Law and Director of Stern’s Vincent C. Ross institute of Accounting Research. He successfully served as Dean of the Stern’s Undergraduate College from 1995-2004, and again as interim dean from 2010 -2011.
During his deanship, Dean Choi implemented a new undergraduate curriculum with a focus on the liberal arts, critical thinking, social responsibility and leadership and global business. He also introduced several programs that remain hallmarks of the Undergraduate College today, including the Barr Family International Studies Program in which every junior travels abroad to learn first-hand about different business cultures and ways of conducting business, the senior-year Honors Program linking talented students with the research faculty, as well as the Cohen Arts and Culture Experience which exposes all students in systematic fashion to the arts and culture of New York City.
Dean Choi is also a respected scholar. He has authored numerous books including his award-winning International Accounting (Prentice-Hall), International Finance and Accounting Handbook (John Wiley), International Capital Markets in a World of Accounting Differences (Irwin) and Globalization of Financial Accounting and Reporting (FEI). He has published in many journals including Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Accountancy, and the Journal of International Business Studies.
Dean Choi has lectured at numerous institutions around the world including INSEAD (France), the Cranfield School of Management (England), Japan America Institute of Management Science, University of Bocconi (Italy) and the Stockholm School of Economics (Sweden). He also served as a member of the First American Visiting Team to establish the National Center for Industrial Science and Technology Management Development in the Peoples Republic of China. He has taught thousands of executives the essentials of international reporting and analysis in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the U.S., most notably Wall Street. He is a fellow of the Academy of International Business, a recipient of the Citibank Excellence in Teaching Award, a recipient of the American Accounting Association’s Outstanding International Accounting Educator Award and was the first academician appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Financial Executives Research Foundation.
Dean Choi is a member of the American Accounting Association, the Academy of International Business, Financial Executives Institute, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi. He is the founding editor of the Journal of International Financial Management and Accounting.
